Stocks in the United States closed mixed at the end of trading on Monday, as indices were accompanied to the upside, and gains were recorded in the industrial, oil and natural gas and basic materials sectors. On the other hand, losses were recorded in the sectors of technology, communications and public institutions, which led the indices downward.


At the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded an increase of 0.30%, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose by 0.10% and the Nasdaq fell by 0.03%.


Among the leading stocks today in the Dow Jones Industrial Average was Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT), which rose by 3.04%, or 6.36 points, to close at 215.53. Meanwhile, Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 2.10% or 1.15 points to end at 55.81, while American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 1.45% or 2.31 points to 161.14 in late trade.


As for the worst performer at the end of the day, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) closed down by 1.60%, or 2.63 points, to trade at 162.03 at the close. Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 0.96%, or 2.42 points, to end at 250.90, and Intel Group (NASDAQ:INTC) closed down 0.88%, or 0.29 points, to 32.52.


On the other hand, the best performance in the Standard & Poor's 500 index was recorded by Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ: WDC), which rose by 8.22% at a price of 38.04. Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) also continued its rise at 8.04% and closed. At levels of 63.27, as well as the stock of Gap Inc (NYSE: GPS) rose by 6.74% and ended its trading at a price of 9.98.


Among the stocks that underperformed today, we mention SVB Financial Gro (OTC:SIVBQ), which fell by 24.12% and closed its session at a price of 0.61, Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY), which lost 6.67% at a price of 0.15, and MarketAxess stock. Holdi (NASDAQ:MKTX), which weakened by 2.21% and closed at 335.70 in today's trading session.


On the other hand, the best performance in the Nasdaq index was recorded by PLx Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:PLXP), which rose by 245.67% at a price of 0.36. 3.20, as well as Agrivy Corp. (NASDAQ: AGFY) stock, which rose by 95.59% and ended its trading at a price of 0.28.


Among the stocks that underperformed today, we mention Pear Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PEAR), which fell by 50.62%, closing at a price of 0.11, Apollomics Inc (NASDAQ:APLM), which lost 33.22%, at a price of 8.14, and SHL stock. Telemedicine Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:SHLT), which weakened by 31.83% and closed at 14.48 on the day's exchange.


The number of gainers exceeded the number of shares that closed lower in trading on the New York Stock Exchange with 1900 compared to 1037, while 117 remained unchanged. As for the Nasdaq stock exchange, 2110 among the stocks strengthened their position and 1452 retreated, while 185 of the stocks maintained their value.


Shares of Pear Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PEAR) fell to an all-time low, losing 50.62%, or 0.11 points, at a price of 0.11. GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ: GCTK) stock climbed to a 52-week high, adding 168.91%, or 2.01 points, to a price of 3.20. Apollomics Inc (NASDAQ:APLM) stock fell to an all-time record low, continuing its decline by 33.22%, or 4.05 points, at a price of 8.14. Shares of SHL Telemedicine Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:SHLT) fell to an all-time low, dropping 31.83%, or 6.76 points, at 14.48.


500 Volatility Index, which measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 index, traded up 3.10% and closed at 18.97.


Gold futures for June delivery fell 0.97%, or 19.65%, and closed at $2,006.75 an ounce. As for trading in other commodities, WTI crude oil futures contracts for May delivery fell 1.05%, or 0.85 points, and reached a price of $79.85 per barrel. As for the June contract for Brent oil contracts, it decreased by 1.02%, or 0.87 points, and closed at $84.25 per barrel.


The EUR/USD pair maintained its stability by 0.32%, and traded at 1.09 levels, while the USD/JPY pair continued its rise by 1.11%, reaching 133.60 levels.


Dollar index futures traded up by 0.48% at 102.22.
